Question:

How do I know what weight loss surgery is right for me?

Answer:

A bariatric surgeon or specialist will be able to assess if you are eligible for bariatric surgery. Generally, criteria involve a BMI that is ≥ 40, or an overweight of more than 100 pounds (or 45 Kg). Alternatively, the BMI is ≥ 30-35 and the patient presents at least two obesity-related co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders. Other pathologies to consider may be non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease.
