If you’re considering having a tooth replaced with a dental implant - an artificial tooth that is screwed into the jawbone to replace a natural tooth root - for medical or aesthetic reasons, then this guide will give you an overview of what you need to know so that you can make an informed decision.
You can save up to 80% on the cost of dental surgery if you choose to have treatment abroad. When it comes to dental implants the exact price of the treatment depends on the location of the clinic, your insurance coverage, the complexity of the operation, the materials used, and how many implants are needed. After looking at your X-rays, a specialist from one of the hospitals we partner with can provide you with a treatment plan and price quote. The prices listed below are examples of the average cost of a dental implant in various countries.
Though expensive, dental implants are the best and most cost-effective option when it comes to dental restoration. They offer a more permanent solution to tooth loss compared to dentures, crowns and bridges as they are designed to last up to 15 years compared to a crown or bridge which should last between 5 to 7 years on average. Therefore only high-quality, durable materials are used to create a dental implant, which is comprised of three parts: the implant device itself, the overlying crown or denture, and the abutment which connects the implant device to the crown or denture. A possible bone graft or sinus lift would raise the cost of the treatment as it would require more work from the oral surgeon, and additional factors like the position of the missing tooth (front tooth replacement is usually a little more expensive), X-rays, and anesthesia influence the overall cost of the treatment.
We work closely with a number of hospitals around the world, all of which are highly experienced in dealing with international patients, and which offer high-quality dental treatments at affordable prices. These are some of our most popular clinics:
MDental Clinic is an ISO-accredited clinic which won the Best of Budapest Hungary Award in 2012, and was given Platinum Accreditation by the Global Clinic Rating; the only international, independent, industry-standard benchmark for healthcare clinic standards and patient satisfaction. This accreditation means that MDental Clinic ranks amongst the top 20 dental clinics in the world. All of the clinic’s team of highly trained oral surgeons and dentists are specialized in implantation, overdenture and other restorations on implants.

In addition to its state-of-the-art technology, the dental hospital has a dedicated center for international patients.
Established in 1985 by Dr. Enrique Jimenez, the Sani Dental Group is now one of the largest dental groups in Mexico – with three offices in Los Algodones. The clinic’s 30 specialized dentists and oral surgeons are highly experienced in dealing with international patients, most of whom travel from the US or Canada for treatment. Sani Dental Group offers a wide range of services such as dental implantology, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics and periodontics.
After looking at your X-rays and examining the position of the tooth that needs to be replaced the oral surgeon will determine whether a bone graft is required. If an existing damaged tooth still has to be removed the site must be allowed to heal fully - which can take two to six months- before the surgery can be performed.
Before the procedure is performed the site will be injected with local anesthesia to numb the area, and a general anesthetic may be administered if the patient requires several implants. During the procedure the oral surgeon will open the gum tissue to expose the area of bone where the implant will be placed. Once healthy bone material has been established, a special drill is used to prepare the bone to receive the implant. At this point the abutment is sometimes also added along with the implant. After the implant has been placed into the jawbone and the tissue sutured, it is left to heal and fuse to the bone for three to six months. During this healing phase a temporary denture can be provided.
When the implant has attached to the bone - in a process called osseointegration - the dentist will reopen the gum and cement the prosthetic crown onto the abutment so that it appears as a natural tooth. If the abutment wasn’t added at the same time as the implant then the gum will be re-opened to add the abutment and left to heal for two weeks before the crown is cemented on top.
It’s common for the procedure to be performed in either two or three stages but nowadays certain oral surgeons are able to perform the procedure in one surgery depending on if the patient is a suitable candidate. After the implant and abutment have been inserted it’s common for patients to experience slight pain, bleeding, bruising and swelling, but this is perfectly normal and shouldn’t last more than a few days. After each phase you will be allowed to go home straight after the procedure and will be able to work the next day
