Hair transplants can permanently restore the hair of men and women with partial baldness by transplanting new follicles into balding or thinning areas. Here are the answers to the most common questions asked by those considering hair transplant surgery.
Since it’s difficult to assess the long-term stability of donor hair and the extent of future hair loss when patients are young, it’s best to wait until you’re at least 25 to have a hair transplant.
All of the hospitals we partner with around the world have received accreditations from the Joint Commission International (JCI) or have the highest national accreditation. We work exclusively with hospitals that are highly experienced in dealing with international patients, and which have English-speaking staff, translators and high customer- satisfaction ratings. So whether you decide to choose a clinic based on its location or the price of the treatment you can rest assured that you’ll be in good hands.

Once you’ve requested a free quote, one of our patient managers will give you a call and ask you a series of questions to determine your needs and preferences. They’ll also ask you to send us some photos of your head which will allow the specialists to evaluate how many grafts you will need. Using this information we can provide you with a treatment plan and quote that’s individually tailored for you!
The hospitals we work with offer FUE hair transplants at up to 80% less than the average cost in the UK. At some of our partner clinics the price is dependent on the number of hairs being transplanted, others have a fixed rate whether you need 2000 or 5000 grafts.
If you decide you’d like to go ahead with the treatment once the specialist has provided you with a personalized treatment plan and quote, we’ll check to see if the hospital has an appointment available on your preferred date and then you can book your flights! We’ll pass on your flight details to the hospital and send you a list of hotels in the vicinity of the hospital, as well as any important information and contact numbers. Remember we’re always at the other end of the phone in case you need anything while you’re there!
During the treatment you’ll be given a local anesthetic and depending on the size of the area you’re having treated the procedure will take between 4 and 8 hours. The hospitals we work with offer follicular unit extraction (FUE); the latest hair transplantation technique. Unlike the traditional technique which involves removing a strip of the scalp where follicles are plentiful, with FUE each follicular unit is removed one at a time. It’s a more time consuming process, but one that avoids the linear scar from the donor site and the recovery period is quicker.
You’ll be able to leave the hospital immediately after your hair transplant but we recommend that you stay in a nearby hotel for 2 nights as you’ll have a check-up the day following the treatment. Your scalp may be very tender and you may need to take painkillers for a few days. You may also be prescribed an antibiotic or an anti-inflammatory drug and you will have to wear bandages for a day or two.
You can return to work and social activity from around 2 to 5 days after a FUE hair transplant procedure. By this point the swelling will have subsided but there are usually visible scabs and redness at the recipient sites which will usually subside around 10 to 14 days after the procedure. We’ll give you a call to check on you a few days after the treatment.
The transplanted hair will fall out within 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. This is completely normal and not a sign that the operation has failed. You should start to notice new growth within a few months. One side effect of the treatment can be shock loss which is when hair in areas that weren’t treated falls out. Although this can be worrying, it’s just temporary. Not all transplanted follicles grow new hair, but around 85 to 95 percent of transplanted roots will. Follow your surgeon’s post-operative care guidelines and you’ll see the results within a few months. Around 60% of new hair growth should be seen between 6 and 9 months after the treatment and by the 12 month mark the full results will be visible.
